Updated on 06/10/2025

I won’t write an epic introduction here but simply want to express my admiration for the beauty and complexity of images created by artificial intelligence.

I work with 3D graphics and understand the human effort involved in creating a beautiful image. What neural image generators create in seconds is simply amazing. Of course, there are downsides and flaws, but modern technology is only the beginning of creating ultra-realistic, procedurally generated virtual worlds of the future for our consciousness.

The active internet community is also not staying aside. The concept of mutual help in generation works in projects like HORDE, where you can share your computing resources with other users while they share theirs with you. By installing the service client on your PC, you can help the project provide free image and text generation, and at the same time generate for free yourself. The project is free but has a significant queue.

There are certainly many more limited free image generators, but in this article, I tried to collect those suitable for both beginners and professionals based on accessibility, efficiency, and simplicity.

1. RECRAFT

Recraft AI image generator interface

Among image generators, this fast-growing and popular neural network stands out. It offers excellent tools for design and generation. Especially suitable for professionals in design and vector graphics (logos, cards, illustrations), it also creates nearly perfectly realistic images from text descriptions.

Recraft provides 50 free credits per day, with 1 credit per raster image and 2 credits per vector image. Features include background removal, image enhancement when scaling (paid), infinite canvas, export in various formats, many styles, mockups, and lots of other useful tools that simplify the workflow. For beginners, Recraft is convenient thanks to its simple and pleasant interface without many confusing buttons.

2. PLAYGROUND

Playground AI image generator interface

As the name suggests, this neural network is intended for creating backgrounds. A design tool allowing you to generate 10 images every 3 hours for free in good quality. Beginners can also easily use this site to create regular images thanks to its very user-friendly interface. It can generate realistic images with a good prompt. You can upload your own images and change their style. A simple, very pleasant, and fast generator.

GOOGLE DOPPL

The best online clothing try-on service. Available for Android and iOS. With Doppl, you can try on any outfit: if you see a piece you like in a store or on social media, you can upload its photo to Doppl and see how it looks on you. You can also save or share your best looks with friends. Now you can choose not only preloaded clothing but also any clothing available online. The service is also evolving to support 360° try-ons.

Google has also developed the MIXBOARD studio for creative users, where they can create mixes of images on an unlimited canvas.

4. CRAIYON

Craiyon image generator interface

Another simple and free neural image generator. Although the developers claim it can generate photorealism, this generator is better suited for illustrations. It generates 4 images per prompt, and you can choose the style. Perfect for beginners and those who don’t want to worry about credits, just have fun creating everything they once imagined. It also offers an option to upscale (enhance) any image immediately after generation. To generate in 16:9 and 9:16 resolutions, you need to purchase a subscription.

5. DREAM BY VOMBO

Dream by Vombo image generator interface

A free image generator with a 9:16 aspect ratio (ideal for mobile phones). The free plan generates one image per prompt with selectable styles. The interface is simple but has many limitations. Still, it’s a worthy generator producing decent images without any credit restrictions. If you’re a beginner looking for a beautiful wallpaper for your phone or vertical monitor, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Also available as apps for Android and Apple, making it very convenient.

6. FREEPIK

Freepik AI image generator interface

This large and popular stock platform, whose images and videos have been used to train many neural networks, also offers 20 free credits per day for AI image generation from text, with 1 credit per image. It features a powerful studio for creating and editing any images and videos (paid), including sound, previously known as Pikaso. The interface is moderately complex but not overloaded, with many tools, the ability to create custom styles, mockups, lip-syncing, video creation with consistent characters, and much more. Mobile support for creation and editing is included. The images produced are quite realistic if you manage to craft a good prompt.

7. LEONARDO AI

Leonardo AI image generator interface

An excellent neural network for creating fantasy landscapes, interesting places, and exotic characters. It is less effective for photorealism but can still produce simple realistic images. The styles match their names, though sometimes prompts need clarification. It offers great colors and shadows for impressive illustrations for books, websites, and creative landing pages. Users get 150 credits per day, with an average of 25 credits per generation of 4 images. Most tools, including video, are paid. The interface is slightly cluttered but intuitive. A great AI for those who enjoy beautiful generations without hassle.

8. IMAGINE ART

Imagine Art image generator interface

Similar to LEONARDO AI, this image generator is part of a powerful online content creation suite. It provides 50 credits every 12 hours, enough for about 16 images. The premium interface offers many tools, most of which are paid. The images are colorful, but with the right prompt, it can produce realistic results. It includes a free image editor with export options and essential tools, making it very useful.

9. CANVA

Canva design platform

The undisputed leader in online design for both amateurs and professionals. Its powerful online studio now includes the AI-powered MagicMedia, which creates beautiful stylized images from text prompts. Users get 4 credits per day to generate 16 high-resolution images. Since Canva is primarily a design studio, photorealism is difficult to achieve, but you can edit images and incorporate them into broader design compositions. Perfect if you want to combine generated images, create stunning backgrounds, or design advertising brochures.

10. DREAM STUDIO

Dream Studio interface

The official website of the Stable Diffusion generative AI model by Stability AI. This model is considered one of the best for image generation. Generation is paid, but upon registration, users receive 100 credits, which is enough for about 500 images depending on quality and size settings. You can select the model, style, and edit images. The interface is simple and beginner-friendly. Stable Diffusion is widely used by independent users who install it on their own computers. It remains popular due to its high quality and relatively fast performance. The generated images are also notably realistic.

Bonus: FLUX SCHNELL AI

Flux Schnell AI interface

And here is a bonus. A powerful image generator based on Flux models, available for free only in the entry-level Flux Schnell AI model, but no less effective. The free plan offers 5 credits per day — 5 images. The Flux Pro AI platform offers many models and tools, recommended for visual professionals as its advanced versions provide extensive experimental editing options and flexible settings. It produces high-quality, highly realistic images. The platform has a pleasant interface and user-friendly features. You can also use it with 60 initial credits and 20 daily credits on the FLUXLORAAI interface and on the FLUXLORAAI interface with 40 initial credits and 20 daily credits. The functionality of Flux AI Kontext has also been updated — this model generates images not through a diffusion method, but as a sequence of tokens, which makes it possible to describe the required edits to the image using text. A simple text-to-image generator, KOLORS, runs on Flux.

The FLUX1AI generator offers free services for background removal, restoring old photos, and several other features. It also provides a full modern set of paid tools and various neural networks for content processing.

The image generation service NANOBANANA offers not just image creation but also text-based editing. The service is powered by Google’s Gemini 3 model. The editor performs complex editing tasks, including face refinement, background replacement, object placement, style transfer, and character modification. It accurately understands contextual instructions such as “place in a snowstorm” or “generate a complete face,” while maintaining photorealistic quality. Upon registration, you receive 4 free credits to create 4 high-quality images.

Alibaba offers the image generation and editing service Qwen-Image-Edit, which supports both semantic and visual editing. The limits for free usage may vary. It can also be used in QwenCHAT with a limit on free requests.

An interesting way to create images in real time is offered by the service GOODFIRE, where you can draw with squares on a canvas and watch the generation change dynamically.

In the simple logo generator LOGOFAST, you can quickly create your own unique logo using a neural network and an editor. Use it together with the wonderful service from Google, GENTYPE, which generates unique alphabets.

Besides the generators mentioned above, I recommend popular Chat GPT-4o and Grok3, which also excel at creating vivid and realistic images. Multimodel generators like KREA AI are also very convenient — powerful online suites combining multiple neural networks. Such services allow free or credit-based use of several AI models.

For those seeking more flexibility, for example in creating character images, I recommend the node-based generator FLORA, which uses Chat GPT, Gemini, and Claude Sonet. Also try the free suite MINMAX AI and the generator giving 10 free images daily, PicLumen.

For those who enjoy generating images using reasoning models like ChatGPT-4o and Gemini Flash, skillfully applying prompt tactics, this can also be done with the open-source model BAGEL-7B-DEMO available on Hugging Face.

Another token-based model on Hugging Face with similar functionality is Lumina-Image-2, which generates high-resolution images.

The IMG2GO toolkit allows editing generated images, removing backgrounds, and converting. 66 initial credits are spent at 1 credit per 30 seconds of action or per page, but it's enough to explore all the service's features.

On the fake person generation service, you can generate the face of someone who supposedly doesn't exist. Be cautious with this tool, as the neural network may produce the face of a real person — after all, it is trained on real human faces.

You can generate images for free using Stable Diffusion on SEEDANCE, which also has two paid counterparts focused on video generation. The service gives you 5 credits upfront and additional ones daily, but that won’t be enough for generating videos—or even for creating several images using other neural networks on the platform.

ByteDance offers an image generation and processing service SEEDREAM. It can be tried on SEEDREAMBEST and FLUXPROAI. At the same time, the third-party free image generator SEEDREAMPRO does not require registration and generates decent images just as well.

The company Tencent is developing its reasoning open native model HunyuanImage with contextual dependency of generations.

VISUALELECTRIC is also available for designers, offering an infinite canvas, collaboration tools, and integration with several website-building services. On the free plan, the license is limited to personal use.

Another design tool is PICSART, which offers a high-quality photo/video editor and a wide range of templates. However, unfortunately, access is limited to a 7-day trial period that requires entering credit card details. Therefore, we cannot recommend this service to you.

DZINE AI was also created for designers. It offers 50 credits upfront and 32 daily image generation credits on a 7-day free plan. These credits can be used to remove backgrounds (2 credits) and access various tools in a convenient editor. They provide 100 MB of storage space. Images can be downloaded with a watermark.

In PHYGITAL+, a multi-model, node-based generator similar to Flora, you’ll receive 20 image-generation credits upon registration for use with the models included in the free plan. The limit is 10 generations per week. The free tier also lets you work with many tool nodes and templates.

Google's free interface generator for mobile apps and websites is STITCH, which creates high-quality design cards from text prompts with subsequent editing options. It features semantic image recognition — you draw by hand, and it transforms your sketch into an image.

The paid design generator LOOKA allows you to generate dozens of website designs, logos, business cards, and more for free. However, you can only download your design if you purchase a subscription. Still, it’s a great tool for gathering ideas at no cost. The same can be said about the design service LOGOMAKR and the online store builder SHOPIFY.

The boldly named platform DESIGNSAI helps you create not only attractive website designs and logos, but also swap faces in photos, synthesize speech from text, turn photos into illustrations, and even chat with an AI about your project’s design. All of this is available during a 7-day free trial after entering your payment details.

Another design tool, CLIPDROP, offers free tools for background removal, cleanup, and 2x upscaling — up to 20 uses per day, along with 50 daily text removals. You can also try out the marketing AI assistant JASPER with a 7-day trial after entering your credit card information.

The image editor RIVERFLOW can create and modify images by a text prompt. Upon registration, you will receive 20 credits for free, at the rate of 1 operation — 1 credit.

The service LUMINORAI from the mockup resource YELLOWIMAGES gives 20 credits per month for creating images. Creating one image at a resolution of 1024x1360 spends 2 credits.

You can generate images for free on NEURALLOVE with some limitations on editing options and downloading with a watermark. The free plan includes a feature to refine the prompt after generation.

You can also create images for free on the multi-model platform NIGHTCAFE. The platform often runs contests for the best themed generation, which gives a chance to earn additional features.

The simple, free drawing canvas AUTODRAW helps you sketch and color vector icons with ease.

The photo editing service VANCEAI offers a wide range of tools but lets you generate or edit only one image for free, using the 3 starter credits. It supports professional-level processing with resolutions up to 32 megapixels and also provides a desktop app.

A whimsical image generator with a beautiful name, DEEPDREAMGENERATOR, lets you create your dreams for 80 credits. You can search and upload an image from their stock via IMAGESEARCH or generate one from text using different neural network models. The AI can also animate images. The cost per generation ranges from 4 to 20 credits depending on the model and quality. It also offers upscaling features — from 1.5x (for 16 credits) up to 8x (for 150 credits), with up to 30 upscales per month.

The service ANYREC offers free watermark removal, image upscaling, and many other online tools as well as a PC application. The app can record screens, enhance videos, and create video clips. The website also provides other AI-based applications, for example, music creation in SOUNFUL and several others. It also works as a smartphone app.

The digital content creation platform SEAART allows free creation of images, videos, audio, and avatars. It provides 130 daily credits, which can only be used to create images — 12 credits per image. All other features are paid.

Personalized avatars can also be created on the FEELINAI platform, designed for communication with other people who have also created their own avatars. Upon registration, users receive approximately 100 credit-coins for free. You can also complete tasks to earn additional free coins.

You can create images for free on certain models at REVEART, but the images will have a watermark.

Still in development, but already looking promising are COPILOT from Microsoft and the publicly available text-based neural network GEMINI from Google. Microsoft also offers a free vector-based AI editor — a competitor to Canva and Recraft — called MICROSOFT DESIGNER, while Google provides free access to Imagen 3 through the ImageFX interface, available in GOOGLE LABS. That’s because Imagen 4 has already been released.

The well-known MICROSOFT BING CREATOR, in addition to creating images, is planning to add a video creation feature.

The popular image generator IDEOGRAM provides 12 free credits per week. For 2 credits, you can generate 4 images from 1 prompt. The service also offers all advanced upscaling and modern-level image editing features on paid plans.

The service REVEAI has also become popular, incorporating innovations and allowing convenient editing of created images.

The BABYGENAI service offers to generate an image of a future child by uploading photos of the parents.

Free generations are also offered by the MAGE service, but the set of image styles changes every week.

Google has taken a course toward rapid development of DOOPL — an online clothing try-on service. Now, you can choose not only preset outfits, but also any clothing found on the internet. The service is also evolving to support 360-degree try-on previews.

To place text behind the central object in an image, you can use the paid service TEXTINBETWEEN. The service requires immediate entry of payment card details.

To monetize AI-generated content, you can upload it to the AI content marketplace CIVITAI, where you can also create content using popular neural networks with a one-time grant of 100 units of the local currency, Buzz. Buzz can also be earned by performing various actions on the site.

If you've created an image using services like REPLICATE, STOCKIMGAI, INVOKE, STARRYAI, but it's not of the best quality, you can always enhance it with an upscaler. In addition to the high-quality but fully paid TOPAZ, you can also use the free UPSCALE MEDIA, which allows you to enhance 3 images per month for 3 credits, though with a watermark. You can also use upscaling from FREEPIK.

The upscaling service LETSENHANCE offers 10 credits per month to enhance 10 images. The image editor NEURALLOVE also includes upscaling in its paid plan and occasionally provides free access to the tool. BIGJPG allows you to enhance up to 20 images (up to 5 MB each) on the free plan, with a resolution of up to 3000×3000 pixels. All free plans of these AI tools apply a watermark.

The service WAIFU2X allows you to upscale illustrated images such as anime or artwork, as well as reduce noise (mainly JPEG compression artifacts). It also supports photographs. For enhancing old photos, the free tool GFPGAN is a good choice, as it improves facial features in photos.

Paid upscaling is also offered by VANCEAI, ICONS8, DEEPIMAGE, REMINI, LUPAUPSCALER, MAGNIFIC. However, it’s still hard to fully trust the paid versions, as the quality of these upscalers can vary significantly depending on the image and may not always meet expectations.

To sum up, we can confidently say that we are witnessing the birth of a new industry. Many companies are now posting job openings for programmers capable of creating generative models.

I also want to caution you against using generated content to harm others, encourage those interested in visual arts to learn generation techniques, and wish you good luck in creating your masterpieces.

Take care of yourself calmly and thoughtfully.
